John Rhoads 78, Alamosa, Co, passed away on May 26, 2022, at San Luis Valley Health. Born on March 6, 1944, in Raton NM to Ed and Judy Rhoads. As a young man, John worked in New Mexico Ranches as a Cowboy and would rodeo on the weekend, which is how he met his wife Karen (Smith) Rhoads in 1968. For 10 years he worked as a railroad engineer in the Santa Fe & D & RGW Railroad. They started a family while living in Pueblo Colorado. John & Karen have three children Shawna, Justin (Pam) & Ryan Rhoads. Through the years he farmed & did construction. He was an excelled carpenter and built two of the family homes. He was meticulous and believed if it was worth doing it was worth doing right the first time. In the eighties he was one of the pioneers of introducing Canola to the SLV and roasted the seeds to be used in salad toppings and in baking.
John was a man of a faith and spent many Hours studying the bible. He also had a love for gold panning and golf
A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday May 31, 2022, at 2pm at the Calvary Church Blanca, 607 Broadway Blanca, Colorado 81123. Interment will follow at the Blanca Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers family would like donations to go to the Town of Blanca Cemetery Fund P.O. Box 190 Blanca Colorado 81123, in John’s Memory.
