Wayne Phillips

Wayne Dean Phillips passed away August 4, 2023 at the age of 89. Wayne was born October 11, 1933 in Monte Vista Colorado to Wendell J. Phillips and Ethel Faye Moore Phillips. Wayne married Alice Louise Hawkins.

They lived in and around the Center area for many years. He worked at the Center Consolidated School for 33 years, drove the bus for the Center Head start, drove the activity-athletic bus for Adams State College and retired from working at the Beaver Creek Youth Camp for approximately 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alice, son Jim, brother Wendell and both his parents.

He is survived by his six children, Sue (Skip McClure, Center), Trish (Dan Warmack, Wyoming), Cindy (Dan Cummings, Oklahoma), Mike (Carol, Center), Dwana ( Mark Haugen, Monte Vista) Rob ( Judy , Monte Vista). He is also survived by 80 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

He loved kids and was happiest with lots of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren around him. He was always ready to help whenever called. He loved the mountains, riding horses, fishing, and hunting. He especially enjoyed going to the PBR and National Finals rodeo. He will be greatly missed.

The family has chosen cremation and a family memorial will be held at the Strohmayer Chapel at 10:00 a.m. on August 26, 2023.

All are welcome to attend the burial at the Rock Creek Cemetery directly following Memorial Service.

The family would like to thank River Valley Rehab and Long Term Care facility, Dr. Kelcy Walker, Cory our Hospice Nurse and a Huge Thank You to Kevin who kept vigil over our Dad during this difficult time.

Memorial contributions can be made in his name to Beaver Creek Youth Camp in South Fork.
