Jake J. “Pops” Medina, age 68, of Monte Vista, Colorado, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026, in a car accident. He was born on April 3, 1957, in Monte Vista, Colorado, to Feliberto “Bert” Medina and Dorothy Sisneros.


Jake was known for his unforgettable sense of humor. He made everyone around him smile and laugh. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching Raider’s football, fishing, listening to music, and being with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He will be remembered as a musician who played bass and sang. He was a member of multiple bands and released two CDs. Throughout his working years, Jake was known as hardworking and dependable, spending over 20 years as a foreman at C&L Container before retiring.


Jake leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Lillian Medina of Monte Vista, Colorado; daughter Jennifer Medina of Monte Vista, Colorado; grandchildren Maneecia (Aaron Pepper) of Alamosa, Colorado, Malyka Medina (Rafael Velez) of Pueblo, Colorado, and Miranda Medina of Denver, Colorado; and great-grandchildren Alice Ming and Alizabeth McMillon, both of Alamosa, Colorado. He is also survived by his siblings Pat (Henry) Heredia, Timi (Helen) Medina, Porfie Medina, Veronica Medina, Benny Medina, Cindy Medina, Jimmy (Inocencia) Medina, Mike Medina, and Ray Medina, all of Monte Vista, Colorado, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Dorothy Medina; sisters Maxine and Irene; and son Jake “Little Jake” Medina Jr.


Cremation was chosen. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Strohmayer’s Funeral Home located on 205 S. Broadway, Monte Vista. Funeral and church services will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Valley Church of The Nazarene, located at 228 Madison Street, Monte Vista, Colorado. Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery in Monte Vista, Colorado.


If you ever participated in car shows with Jake, the family invites you to bring your cars and join in giving him one last ride following the services to the cemetery. The family kindly asks attendees to wear Raider’s gear or black and gray in his honor.
