James Larry Mitchell


James Larry Mitchell 79, of South fork Colorado, passed away on June 3rd, 2022, with his loving wife by his side.

James was born March 5, 1943, in Corsicana TX born to W.B. and Geneva Mitchell. James entered into the Air Force in 1962 and retired in 1992, earning the rank Chief Master Sergeant.

James meet Roseline in Fort Worth Texas in 1963, while he was in the military, they married in 1964 and spent 57 years together. James and Rosalyn had two sons Jerry and Barry.

James and Rosalyn moved to South fork Colorado in 1992.

James was a retired Chief Master Sergeant of the US Air Force, a Vietnam and Desert Storm Veteran, past State Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of VFW Post 8121, Past Master of Del Norte Masonic Lodge 105, Member of Amethyst Masonic Lodge 94 in Creede, 32 Degree Scottish Rite, in the shrine with Al Kaly Shrine, Order Eastern Star Bethlehem chapter 56 and past Grand commander Military Order Cooties (MOCA).

James liked to travel, rock tumbling, fishing, hunting, golf, and reading

James is preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his son Jerry (Tracy) Mitchell and Berry (Shelly) Mitchell, grandchildren Faith and Jake Mitchell and Brother Gary (Jane) Mitchell.

A viewing will be held Thursday June 9th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Strohmayer’s Funeral Home, 205 South Broadway St Monte Vista, Colorado.

Interment will be at the Homelake Veteran Cemetery on Friday June 10, 2022, At 10:00 o'clock, with full military honors.
