Creede Resident, George G Hughes, 82, passed away on October 30, 2019 in Colorado Springs. He was born on June 18, 1937 in Isabella, Tennessee, to Reba C. Thompson and James O. Hughes.
George was a man of many skills and a very hard worker. He managed a ranch, worked as a logger, a trucker, an outfitter, a farrier, and ran a bar and restaurant. He spent much of his time outdoors and was an avid hunter. If you couldn’t find him in Colorado, he was on one of his boats sailing the Florida Keys. He was a member of the Elks Club for 45 years and often said he was also a member of the “Too Much Fun” Club.
George is survived by his sons Lee (Tracy) Hughes of Salem, Connecticut and Buddy Powell; Sisters Sarah Knight of Post Orchard, Washington and Linda Kornelius of Athens, Tennessee; Grandchildren Ryan, Nicholas and Jacob Hughes. He was preceded in death by his parents; Son Paul Hughes; and Brother James W. Hughes.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 16th at 1:00 p.m. at the Creede Elks Lodge at 104 S. Main Street, Creede, CO 81130.
