We mourn the passing of Erin Lynn Keech “ELK WOMAN”, of Creede, Colorado was born on June 4, 1957, in Maryland. She was the beloved daughter of James Weldon Hughes and Emmaline Ruth Lippa. Erin, who had no children, was a dedicated and skilled EMT in Hinsdale County for many years, eventually becoming the head of the medical center in the area. She also worked in real estate, always striving to help others find their perfect home.
Erin's journey came to an end on May 18, 2025. She grew up in Connecticut and later moved to Lake City, where she resided for years. Eventually, she moved to Trinidad, where her father, affectionately known as "Jim," lived. And settled in Creede, Colorado making it her forever home. Erin bravely fought and triumphed over breast cancer, proving her strength and resilience.
Known for her artistic talents as a jewelry maker and her love for music, dancing, and riding motorcycles, Erin was a force to be reckoned with. Her wild sense of humor and collection of crazy stories made her a cherished friend to many, earning her the nickname "ELK WOMAN” because of her initials.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, JJ and George. Erin is survived by her half-sisters, Sheila and Reba, as well as her nephew, James Weldon Hughes.
The family has chosen cremation. Services will be held at a later date and will be announced through Strohmayer’s Funeral Home.
Today, we bid farewell to a fierce and loyal individual whose kindness and laughter will echo through the memories of those fortunate enough to have known her. Rest in peace, Erin Keech. Your spirit will live on in the hearts of all who have had the privilege of sharing in your life.
