Donald Montoya Sr.




Donald Montoya Sr. was born on May 25th, 1960 and went home to be with His Lord and Savior, August 22nd at 12:00 pm. He grew up in Monte Vista and graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1979. He later met his wife Grace at the carnival during stampede. Before marriage, Don and Grace used to go roller skating every weekend where they used to dance. Afterward, Don and Grace moved to Cortez. Don went to San Juan Vo-Tech in Cortez, Colorado to study electrical. Don was very crafty when it came to electrical, plumbing and heating. They went on to raise 3 wonderful boys together. Donald is survived by his beautiful wife; Grace Montoya, sons; Desmond (Delerana) and Darren Montoya, his father-in-law; Ramos Medina, grandchildren; Karlitos, Symaria, Txarah, Landen, Ethan, and Preston, siblings; Virginia (Jorge) Olivas, Bernice (Hector) Sigala, Jimmy Montoya, Sandra (Roger) Martinez, Dolores (Lorenzo) Torres, 2 sister-in laws; Tammy (Tom) Espinosa, and Dina (Jim) Duran, as well as multiple aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins. Donald is preceded by both parents; Filimon and Gloria Montoya, brother; Phil, mother-in-law; Grace Medina, son; Donald Montoya Jr., and other aunts and uncles. Donald loved family and fellowship, but the love of his life was his beautiful wife in whom he referred to as his (Linda), which when translated in English means: pretty or beautiful. He would always brag about his wife's cooking and his children. You always knew whenever you saw Don, he was going to tell you a joke. He also loved music, action movies, Eagles (the bird), and he was a die-hard Broncos’ Fan. A viewing and memories will be held Thursday, August 26, 2021, from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at Strohmayer’s Funeral Home at 205 south Broadway in Monte Vista, Colorado. There will be a viewing Friday, August 27, 2021, 9:00 am-10:00 am, and a service to start immediately after, at the River of Life Church at 2602 Clark Street, in Alamosa, Colorado. Following the service, the burial will be held at the Monte Vista Cemetery, and meal will be served at the River of Life Church immediately after. Arrangements in care of Strohmayer’s Funeral Home.
