Barbara Darlene (Lovato) Vigil



Longtime valley resident, Barbara Darlene (Lovato) Vigil, 73, of Saguache, Colorado, passed away on November 25, 2019, unexpectedly.


Barbara was born on September 11, 1946 in Saguache, Colorado the daughter of Antonio “Spike” Lovato and Virginia “Bena” (Lujan) Lovato.


Barbara spent her childhood in Saguache before moving to Leadville, Colorado and Mesa, Arizona and then back to Saguache where she made her home until her time of death.

Barbara was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and was self-employed.

Barbara was a very hard worker and had a great sense of humor. She was known for her beautiful smile and laugh. She enjoyed her “Snacks”, Shopping (especially at the Thrift Stores), Yard Sales, Visiting the “Free Box” in Crestone, Reading and Going to Pow Wow(s). Barbara was known for decorating her house for every occasion and holiday’s (year round). She was known as the “Halloween Lady” in Saguache. She loved spending time with her family, who meant everything to her. Barbara touched a lot of lives, in so many ways, and she will be greatly missed by all.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ronny Lovato, Arnold Lovato and Glenn Lovato.


Surviving Family Members include her Daughter(s) – Lisa A. (Timothy) Johnson of Saguache and Linda A. Vigil of Saguache; her Son(s) – Anthony “Tony” (Tammy) Vigil of Bayfield, Colorado and Michael Vigil of Saguache; her Sister(s) – Cindy (Randy) Arrendondo and Carla (Charlie) Mondragon; her Brother(s) – Steve Lovato, Jimmy (Sandra) Lovato, Dickie (June) Lovato and Gary (Chiara) Lovato; her Grandchildren – Aimee Merkley, Nathaniel Merkley, Harley Wharton, Anthony Vigil, Mariah Vigil, Monique Vigil and Aaron Hersch; her Great-Grandchildren – Casey Merkley, Gavin Jay, Liliana Crane, Silas Meyer and Noah Romero; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.


A Rosary will be held at 7:00pm Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at St Agnes Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass (Service) will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Saguache, Colorado. Following the service, Barbara will be laid to rest at the Hillside Cemetery, followed by a lunch at the Community Building.
