Fred “Dwende” A. Lucero, passed away on March 23, 2026, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, at the age of 84. He was born on November 12, 1941, to Federico and Emma Lucero in Center, Colorado.

Fred attended school through the 9th grade before proudly serving his country in the United States Army. He was known for his strong spirit and his love for the outdoors.

He is survived by his children: Alan (Susan) Lucero of Monte Vista, Connie Lucero of Denver, Tad (Monica) Lucero of Denver, and Celso Gallegos of Denver. He is also survived by his siblings Olivia Lucero, Gloria Valdez, and Becky Lucero, all of Pueblo. Fred’s legacy continues through his 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, as well as countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Federico and Emma Lucero; his brothers Tony Lucero, Luis Vigil (“Chop Chop”), Lorenzo Ulibarri, Joe Salazar, Andrew Lucero, Jessie Lucero, and another Tony Lucero; his sisters Erlinda Lucero and Theresa Sandoval; and his daughter-in-law, Monica Lucero.

Fred found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing, taking long walks, playing the guitar, and watching wrestling.

The family chose cremation in accordance with his wishes. A Celebration of Life will be held on April 11, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Center Assembly of God, located at 550 Worth Street, Center, Colorado 81125. Following the service, an inurnment will take place at Canero Creek Cemetery, 6612 County Road 41.2, Del Norte, Colorado 81132.
